Cheating in Online Poker Doesn’t Pay

Many people are turned away from online poker because they think that everyone is out to get them and in some way or another they are being cheated out of their money. Now, in one respect this is true. Everyone is out to get your money, but that is just the nature of poker. On the other hand though, cheating just really isn’t all that possible in online poker. Although there have been a few famous cheating scandals in the past, these are usually short lived events that are taken on by employees of various poker sites or parties close to the poker site. Cheating by regular players is almost always quashed almost as soon as it begins. This article is going to tell you just why cheating is a silly thing to do and how its not going to do anything but cause you trouble anyways.

The Poker rooms are ready for it

New players will often think that there are easy ways to beat online poker games if they collude with their friends. The usual situation is two or three friends get together over some type of online chat software and then all sit down at the same table. The players then share what cards they have and can make logical deductions as to what other players may or may not have. There are a few reasons not to do this and why it won’t work:

  • Believe it or not, unless you’re a mathematical genius or just excellent with numbers, you and your dumb friends aren’t going to be able to come to enough good conclusions to make it profitable.
  • The card rooms have software that easily identifies bets and patterns that are out of the normal. They will quickly be able to figure out that you and your friends are calling and folding bets at very odd times and before you know it you will try to login to your account and it will be frozen!

That’s right, before you know it the card room’s software will catch up with you and you will have your account and all your money in it frozen. If the room’s investigation concludes that you and your friends were colluding, then you can say bye bye to all your money and any future privileges to play at that site.

Another common trick that new players try to pull is by playing in a tournament under two or three different account names. While this might seem like an ingenious way to increase your chances at winning a tournament, the only thing it’s going to do is bring you disappointment. In the event you do cash out or finish in first place, the card rooms internal fraud department will have you pegged well before you can get that money withdrawn.

Lastly, the internet seems to be filled with ebooks and other tomfoolery on how to cheat at Texas hold’em and other poker games. These are all scams and ultimately will do nothing but cost you money. The best way to beat Texas hold’em or any other poker game for that matter is to study the game over and over until  you become a profitable player. The good news is that if you get good enough at poker, sometimes your opposition will be so bad, it might as well be cheating! Next time you are tempted to take part in the newest scam or sham designed to circumvent an online poker sites security system realize that the only one who is going to lose is you and your bankroll.
